Feeders for Bearded Dragons
A bearded dragon's diet changes more over its life than almost any other common reptile, and feeding an adult like a baby is the most frequent mistake we see.
Hatchlings and juveniles eat mostly insects — as much as they will take in 10–15 minutes, two or three times a day. Extra-small and small discoids, pinhead and small crickets.
Sub-adults shift toward a balance of insects and greens. Medium discoids, medium crickets.
Adults flip to roughly 80% greens and 20% insects, fed every other day. Large discoids, adult crickets, hornworms as a weekly treat.
The size rule holds at every stage: never feed an insect wider than the space between your dragon's eyes. Impaction from oversized feeders is one of the most common preventable illnesses in captive dragons.
