Hornworms are different from nearly every other feeder we sell. They're soft-bodied, moisture-rich — and they grow fast. Understanding that growth is the key to managing hornworms after they arrive.
When your hornworms arrive
Bring the package indoors promptly and inspect the worms and their food.
Follow the orientation and handling instructions supplied with your hornworms so their food remains accessible and waste can be managed appropriately.
They will get bigger
Don't assume the hornworms you receive will remain the same size.
Under favorable conditions, hornworms can grow rapidly. Keep that in mind when deciding when to order and when to feed them.
If your reptile requires smaller prey, plan accordingly rather than allowing the worms to outgrow an appropriate feeder size.
Temperature
Temperature influences hornworm growth and development. Keep them in a stable environment away from extreme heat, cold and direct sunlight, and follow the care instructions provided with your order.
Food
Hornworms require an appropriate diet and should have access to sufficient food while they're being maintained.
Keep their container clean
As hornworms grow, waste accumulates quickly.
Follow the supplied care instructions and keep their environment clean so the worms and their food remain in good condition.
Watch the size — not just the calendar.
