Discoid Roach Care & Storage
Discoid roaches are hardy feeder insects and an especially useful option for reptile keepers in Florida. With appropriate housing and routine care, they can be maintained at home until you're ready to feed them.
When your discoids arrive
Bring the package inside promptly and inspect your feeders.
Move the roaches into a secure enclosure with appropriate ventilation.
Housing
A smooth-sided container with a secure lid works well for maintaining feeder roaches.
Provide structures that create additional surface area and hiding places. Keep the enclosure dry and clean, removing spoiled food and excessive waste as needed.
Because these are live insects, always keep the enclosure securely contained.
Temperature
Avoid extreme temperature changes and direct sunlight.
Food & hydration
Provide appropriate feeder food and a safe source of moisture.
Fresh produce can provide food and moisture, but uneaten portions should be removed before they spoil or mold.
Choosing the right size
Select a discoid appropriate for the reptile you're feeding. If you're between sizes, choosing the smaller feeder is generally the more conservative option.
